Coffee culture
Cafes & Restaurants

The city of Vienna is rich in coffee houses and nowhere else is coffee drinking as cultivated as here. It's not for nothing that there are around 800 coffee houses in Vienna and nowhere else will you get a pitying look from a waiter if you simply order a “coffee”. No wonder, here in Vienna there are over a dozen popular coffee specialties, from a classic Viennese Melange to the Einspänner.

And if the waiter in the coffee house is a little grumpy, it has nothing to do with rudeness, but rather with tradition. A “grumpy” waiter is as much a part of the coffee house as the icing on the cake. What is that again? Just try it out the next time you visit a coffee house!

One of the best-known coffee houses on the scene is the Savoy on the left-hand side of Vienna, right next to the Naschmarkt, which has often served as a movie set due to its impressive interior. But the restaurant scene is also diverse. Here we have summarized a few places that are very popular in the queer scene.
