Franz Landtmann had no intention of opening just any coffee house in 1873. He wanted it to be the most elegant in the city. When he opened on October 1, Landtmann demonstrated a pioneering spirit: nothing but building sites all around. There was no magnificent Ringstrasse on the doorstep, no Burgtheater next door and the town hall and university opposite were still under construction. But the Viennese were enthusiastic and Café Landtmann was a success.
And this success is now being continued in a dedicated Landtmann room in the BoutiqueHOTEL Donauwalzer. Including original coffee house table and newspaper holder.
